WORSHIP WITH US

We invite you to be part of one of our worship services at 8:30, 9:45,  or 11:00 am.

The 8:30 service is a traditional worship service, and the 9:45 service is contemporary; while the 11:00 service is a blend of traditional and contemporary worship styles.  This means that we seek to incorporate both traditional and contemporary songs in praise and worship of our God.  Pastor Garth Forster brings timely inspirational messages each week with practical ways of applying God’s Word in different styles, but of the same substance that is meaningful, we hope, to your own situation.  Special musical groups and soloists are used to enhance our worship experience.  The 11:00 worship can also be heard on WBAF 1090AM radio in Barnesville.

We also have a Sunday evening worship service at 6:30 which is more informal.

ABOUT OUR BELIEFS…

First Baptist Church of Barnesville is a church that believes in "speaking the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15). A church that neglects "truth" is permissive and ultimately harms the people it pretends to help. A church that neglects "love" is cold and too callous to help people.

When it comes to truth claims, the Bible is our final authority for answering all of the important questions of faith and life. We believe that "the faith once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3) is sufficient for all of our needs today. Our theology centers around those fundamental beliefs that all Christians have in common:

  • The Virgin Conception of Christ (Matthew 1:18-25)
  • The Sinless Life of Christ (John 8:46; Hebrews 4:15)
  • The Atoning Death of Christ (Romans 5:8)
  • The Bodily Resurrection of Christ (Matthew 28:1-6)
  • The Visible Second-Coming of Christ (Acts 1:11)

The risen Christ left His church marching orders: to take the Good News of His salvation to people everywhere (Matthew 28:19-20). Knowing that all people have failed and are hurting because of sin, love compels us to seek to reach hurting humanity with the only permanent solution – a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Once a person comes to Christ in saving faith, then the great goal of the Christian life is to grow in Christ-likeness.

GOD'S PLAN OF SALVATION

God Loves You - God loves you and wants you to have eternal life.  "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."  (Jn 3:16)

But you are a sinner - Because God is also just and righteous, our sin stands in the way of receiving the eternal life God wants us to have.  "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

(Rom 3:23)

You can be right with God - God has made a way for you to be forgiven.  If you will receive Jesus Christ, He will forgive your sin and open the door to life that is full and meaningful.  "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved ..."  (Acts 16:31)

Your response must be:

o     Repent of your sin - This is turning away from your sin and turning toward God.  "Repent, ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out."  Acts 3:19

o     Place your faith in Jesus - Faith is trusting in Jesus.  "For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God."  Ephesians 2:8

o     Surrender to Jesus as Lord - This is actually giving Jesus control of your life - "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."  Romans 10:9-10

o     Grow in Christ - You need to identify with Christ and grow in your relationship with Him.  The New Testament way of identifying with Christ is through baptism and church membership.  Here you will find Christian friends who will help you to grow in your new life in Christ.

To speak to someone further about this decision or if you have any questions, call 770-358-2353.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?

Over the past decade, hundreds of people have taken the step from regular attendance to member of this family of faith. If you are looking for a church home in the Barnesville area, we hope you will, too!

To become a member of First Baptist, you need to: (1) personally trust Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord; (2) be baptized by immersion (under water) as a believer to symbolize your salvation; and (3) complete our "DISCOVERING CHURCH MEMBERSHIP"  (Discovery 101) class.

You may indicate your desire to become a member by completing a communications card. Then, either bring it to the Pastor at the invitation time or you may place it in the offering plate. Either way, we will be back in touch with you about how to take the next step and become a member of the First Baptist family.
