                                          DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING

Discipleship training consists of two major parts - Foundations and the School of Discipleship.  Foundations is designed to give a person the basics for a lifetime of spiritual growth.  Each of the Foundations courses build on the one before, so they must be taken in order.

Foundations 101 is the introductory course.  It is designed for
non-members as well as those who want to know more about First Baptist Church.   Foundations 101 helps you discover what it means to be a Christian, what we believe, the purpose of First Baptist, and what it means to be a member.

Foundations 201 deals with discovering spiritual maturity.  In this course we explore the four habits of a growing Christian.

Foundations 301 helps you see how uniquely God created you - by giving you spiritual gifts, a heart (passion), abilities, a personality and experiences.  When we look at all these areas together, they point in the direction God wants you to serve in His Kingdom.

Foundations 401 helps you discover your mission.  You discover how we can share God’s salvation message and practical ways of supporting missions in our community and the world.

The School of Discipleship continues this life long discipline of growing in your relationship with God by offering various courses with the purpose of allowing you to choose those areas of interest in order to  strengthen your Christian walk.  These courses include: Step by Step through the Old and New Testaments, Experiencing God, The Mind of Christ, Truth Matters, MasterLife, PrayerLife, Living in the Spirit, Becoming a Contagious Christian, Life Answers, and Continuing Witness Training.   Classes usually begin the second week of September and February.

                                  DEACON FAMILY MINISTRY

The deacons of our church are committed to ministering to the families of our church.  If you are a member of the church, our deacons will help you in any way they can.  Each deacon is assigned a Sunday School class.  Their goal is to contact every active church member's family and keep in touch with them throughout the year.  The deacons pray constantly for their families, seek to minister to them in times of crisis and to rejoice with them in times of joy.

Whenever anyone joins our church, they are immediately assigned to a deacon who will contact the new member with a packet of helpful materials in order to get to know them.  Then throughout the year, the deacon will keep in touch with the new member, just to see if he can be of service in any way.  The new member will also be given the phone number of their deacon and be encouraged to call him at any time, for any reason.

Our deacons take very seriously their ministry of service to the families of First Baptist.  The Chairman of the Deacons would be happy to speak with you concerning how the deacons can best serve you by calling 770-358-2353

                                                MINISTRY FOR WOMEN

The WMU is our women's organization for mission study and mission action.  It is an age-graded program.  Mission Friends is the youngest group, involving preschoolers ages 2-5.  They study about missionaries and the cultures they serve by making food from the culture, playing games from the culture, and listening to short stories of how the missionaries tell the people about Jesus.  Mission Friends meet on Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm in room 203 for children ages 2&3. Preschoolers ages 4&5 meet in room 205.

Girls in Action is the next oldest group, for girls in the 1st through the 6th grades.  Girls in this age group study missionary involvement in spreading the Gospel and participate in some mission action projects during the year.  Their learning is done through music, games, stories and projects. This group meets on Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm in room 400 (first and second grade girls), room 200 (third and fourth grade girls) and room 207 (fifth and sixth grade girls).

Baptist Women invites every woman of the church to join them in carrying out mission action projects throughout the community and state.  Baptist Women meet throughout the year to plan and carry out mission action projects and pray together. Check our weekly newsletter for times and places.

                            MINISTRY FOR MEN

Our Brotherhood is the men's mission organization of the church.  Its goal is to help boys and men understand what missions are all about and become actively involved in carrying out missions.  The mission of Brotherhood is to:  reach men and lead them into Christian fellowship, help men to become better husbands and fathers, and to lead men into Christian service.

The boy’s group is called Royal Ambassadors, which is for boys in grades 1 through 6.  Each boy works on different achievement steps, which help him understand Christian missions.  They participate in several mission activities throughout the year.

First Baptist offers two men’s groups to involve all the men in the church in mission action. The Baptist Men meet for breakfast the first Sunday morning of each month in the Christian Family Life Center for fellowship and to plan mission actions.  Baptist Men have been involved in building a Habitat House, collecting clothing and Bible study material for people in Haiti, and providing ministry to those in our county jail.  Baptist Young Men meet the first Monday of every month in the Christian Family Life Center. They are involved in mission action throughout the year such as sponsoring a booth during Buggy Days, raising money for foreign missions, and providing help for needy people in our community.

                                      MUSIC MINISTRY

THE ADULT CHOIR participates in the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship service and is open to all adults, college age and up.  They sing inspirational songs and anthems of praise and worship that will move you and bless the heart of God. The Adult Choir practices each Wednesday night at 7:15.

MUSIC AND ME is our choir for 3-year-old children and, PRESCHOOL MUSIC TIME is for 4 and 5-year-old children.  They learn worship songs; learn about Jesus, and sing in the worship services quarterly.

We have three children’s choirs; one for 1st and 2nd Graders, one for 3rd and 4th Graders and one for 5th and 6th Graders. They sing and learn worship songs.  They sing in worship services and in special performances throughout the year.  These choirs meet at 5:00 on Wednesday nights.

YOUTH CHOIR, SERAPHIM (students in 7th to 12th grade), bring songs of intimate worship to many of our services.  This choir sings in morning and evening worship services, in addition to special performances outside the walls of First Baptist Church. Practice is on Sunday afternoons with a light dinner afterwards.

THE PRAISE TEAM sings the latest in contemporary praise and worship songs. Groups are open to all adults, college age and up, by audition.

We also have three hand bell choirs for various ages.

                                       YOUTH PROGRAM

Do you ever think about the future? With all the responsibilities and pressures facing our youth, it’s tough to look past today, isn’t it? Our Youth Ministry wants to help youth face today and prepare for tomorrow. We have a vision that can impact their life in radical ways just as it is impacting ours here at First Baptist.

Christ-followers committed to growing together today, to face tomorrow.

Youth will find a place to belong and a group of people to call friends.  Our Youth Ministry works to meet needs in their life while providing opportunities for Bible study, fellowship, and worship.  They will discover a support system to laugh with, talk to, and rely on.

Ongoing Programs Include…

·        Sunday Morning Bible Study
·        Sunday Evening Youth Choir
·        Wednesday Evening Youth Worship
·        Youth Recreation and Social Events
·        Mission Trips and Retreats

At First Baptist Church, we recognize the unique talents that youth have and provide places for them to use those talents in ministry and mission projects.  We challenge youth to share Jesus Christ with those around them each day to change lives forever.

The "CANDLE LIGHTERS" ministry purpose statement is as follows:

The Candle Lighters of the First Baptist Church in Barnesville gathers together men who share a common love for our Lord Jesus and a desire to serve Him.  This ministry seeks to build up Christian men by encouraging them to be spiritual leaders in their homes, by discipling them through regular men's Bible studies, by preparing them to boldly share their faith with all others, and by offering them ministry opportunities that meet needs in the church, the community and around the world.

The "CANDLE LIGHTERS" meet on the first Monday after the first Sunday each month for fellowship, ministry, and spiritual enlightenment.  The meeting lasts for only one hour and begins at 7:30 PM in the CFLC.
